With the help of Kathleen, we hooked up the horse trailer and headed off to Mountain View this morning. Perhaps a bit of a late start, but it worked out in the end.
Mariah's round pen had been reduced to a small corral, because they'd needed most of the panels for something else, but it worked in our favor, really. With the trailer backed into place, we opened up the panels to block any escape, and I set to work.
She was definitely scared, and overall not happy with the idea of getting in the trailer, but she was a sweetheart regardless. Yes, she did turn her butt to me a few times, but it was not in a mean manner.. but a defensive one instead. It only took us about twenty minutes to get her to hop up into the trailer. A huge step up from the one hour they spent with her last time.
She trailered fine, and was more bothered by the back door of the vehicle closing than anything else. It made her jump everytime. Front doors didn't seem to phase her though. Go figure.
When we made it back, we drove into the arena and unhooked the trailer, took the vehicle out, and opened up the door. She jumped right out. We were anticipating having to leave her for a while. A quick exploration of the arena, and then she met her pasture buddy. They seem to get along fine, so we put her right out.
That was it. No work today, it was a long trip home, and I think we were both tired.
